چکیده
Aims: The study cytomorphologic features that distinguish cystic papillary thyroid carcinoma from other cystic thyroid lesions. Materials and Methods: This study was carried out in the department of pathology in a tertiary care health centre in north India over the period of one year. Results: Total 70 lesions showed cystic degeneration were included in the study. Out of 70 cases 18 were malignant and 52 were benign. All cystic neoplasm showed histiocytes, multinucleated giant cells and calcification/ crystals. All cystic papillary carcinoma showed papillae, intranuclear cytoplasmic inclusions, nuclear grooves and histiocytoid cells. In addition psammoma bodies (6 cases), mesothelial like cells with windows ( 5 cases) and clusters with cartwheel pattern ( 3 cases) and isolated plasmacytoid cells ( 7 cases) were also observed. Conclusion: Cystic change is common finding in both benign and malignant lesions of thyroid. However by keen observation and collaborating all cytological, clinical and radiological features we can reach to the diagnosis.

Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma Presenting As a Cystic Neck Lesion: Case Series
Introduction: Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) constitutes 75–85% of all thyroid cancers. PTC usually presents as a subtle, commonly slow-growing, painless thyroid mass or a solitary nodule in the neck. This presentation of a cystic neck lump, without the presence of a thyroid nodule, may imitate the course of a benign disease, thus delaying diagnosis and proper treatment. Case Report: Thr...

Background: Fine needle aspiration (FNA) has led to a decrease in unnecessary surgeries for thyroid nodules. This study was designed to compare diagnostic value of FNA and frozen section methods in the follicular lesions. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study based on the medical records of 42 patients who were referred to surgery clinic of Rasool-e-Akram hospital in Tehran with complain...
متن کاملDifferential Protein Expression Profiles of Cyst Fluid from Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma and Benign Thyroid Lesions
Cystic papillary thyroid carcinoma (cPTC) is a subgroup of PTC presenting a diagnostic challenge at fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB). To further investigate this entity we aimed to characterize protein profiles of cyst fluids from cPTC and benign thyroid cystic lesions. In total, 20 cPTCs and 56 benign thyroid cystic lesions were studied. Profiling by liquid chromatography tandem mass spect...

Argyrophilic nucleolar organizer regions (AgNORs) are loops of ribosomal DNA in the nucleolus and are associated with acidic proteins that have a high affinity for silver. In this study, the mean AgNOR counts were evaluated in specimens. Seventy three specimens were examined, including 16 normal thyroids, 19 nodular goiters, 21 follicular adenomas and 17 thyroid carcinomas (11 papillary, 4 foll...

In 30 patient with single cold thyroid nodule and normal thyroid function tests, 99mTc-MIBI scan is performed. The nodules are divided to hot (10), Warm (12) and cold (8). FNA reported papillary Ca in 4, suspicious follicular neoplasm in 3 and 23 benign lesions. 7 patients were operated on and had final pathology reports (4 papillary Ca and 3 benign lesions). All the nodules with no MIBI ...
